Easy Cheesy Baked Ham and Asparagus

Even though I already have a great round-up of on my site, when I found myself with some nice thick slices of ham last week I couldn’t resist turning it into this new recipe for Easy Cheesy Baked Ham and Asparagus that’s made on a sheet pan! And this was so quick, easy, and tasty and it would be perfect to make any time you have a few slices of ham and want a no-fuss dinner. And there can never be too many recipes using baked ham or asparagus, right?

I wanted a recipe where the ham could bake while the asparagus roasts on the sheet pan, so I use fairly thick slices of ham, but when we tested this the ham was nice and juicy and I think you could use slightly thinner pieces of ham if that’s what you have. If you only have very thinly sliced ham, I’d wrap the ham in foil for the first part of the cooking time and then unwrap when you sprinkle it with Parmesan cheese. This new sheet pan meal idea only has four ingredients, plus salt and pepper, and every asparagus fan who likes ham is going to enjoy this for an easy meal!

What ingredients do you need for this recipe?

  • thickly-sliced pieces of ham
  • fresh asparagus
  • olive oil
  • salt and fresh-ground pepper
  • coarsely-grated Parmesan cheese

Should you use thick or thin asparagus for this recipe?

I prefer thicker spears of asparagus for roasting. If your store only has thin asparagus you might want to reduce the cooking time by a few minutes.

How to make this easy sheet pan meal:

  1. Preheat oven to 375F/190C.
  2. Trim asparagus ends and then cut each asparagus spear in half.
  3. Put asparagus in a bowl and toss with olive oil and season with a little salt and black pepper.
  4. Cut ham into slices at least 1/4 inch thick (or slightly thicker if you prefer.) If you only have thinly-sliced ham, wrap all the ham pieces together in foil.
  5. Arrange ham slices and asparagus spears on a baking sheet that you sprayed with non-stick spray or misted with olive oil.
  6. Bake the ham and asparagus 12 minutes.
  7. Remove sheet pan from the oven, unwrap ham if you were baking in foil, and sprinkle Parmesan cheese generously over the ham and asparagus.
  8. Put sheet pan back into oven and roast 8-10 minutes more, depending on how well-done you prefer your asparagus.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!
